renovation of a studio apartment in the Swiss Alps
Transforming a compact and dated 1970's interior into a bright, cosy Alpine retreat.
The studio was still in its original condition, featuring dark timber panelling throughout. To create a fresh and contemporary feel, all existing panels were removed and the space was painted crisp white, providing a clean canvas and instantly enhancing the light and openness. A beautiful fir wood feature wall was then introduced in a soft natural tone, adding warmth, texture, and a subtle connection to the surrounding Alpine landscape.
To maximise the limited floor space, the television was wall-mounted and the layout was carefully reconfigured to improve functionality. A compact dining area was incorporated through the creation of a bespoke DIY banquette, upholstered in a striped fabric that adds character and visual depth. The seating area features a comfortable sofa bed, allowing the studio to effortlessly adapt from daytime living to overnight accommodation.
The result is a light-filled, airy space that feels significantly larger than its footprint suggests. A charming, practical, and cosy studio in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
